There is no law that requires people to pay a specific amount in commissions at the completion of a real estate transaction. In the great state of Texas, 6% of the sales price is typically allocated to commission for the listing broker which is split with the brokerage representing the buyer (3% each). Even though we are giving over half of our commission to our clients, we allow the buying agent to to keep the same amount so they will be just as motivated to show your home to their clients.
